The Elements of Typographic Style

The classic work by Robert Bringhurst.

Robert Bringhurst’s masterpiece is less of a style guide and more of a philosophical treatise on the relationship between text and the human eye.

A few core tenets to remember as I build out this site’s CSS:
  • Type is a visual form of language; it should honor the text it serves.
  • Choose fonts with structural integrity over superficial novelty.
  • Keep the line lengths comfortable (roughly 45 to 75 characters) to give the reader’s eye a rhythmic, predictable flow.
